Update from Provost Jim Clark on Sandels Building

Dear Sandels Building Colleagues and Students,

As noted last week, the building continues to be filled with much activity. I am pleased to report the following progress:

  • Remediation of mold behind bookcases on the 4th floor has been completed, and the Certified Industrial Hygienist (HC3) has completed testing and cleared the floor. The floor is now ready for additional repairs.
  • Remediation of mold behind bookcases on the 3rd floor has been completed. Additional cleaning is required at the wall base beneath windows. This work will continue until clearances are documented.
  • Cleaning has been completed in the Basement, and HC3 has completed testing and cleared the floor. Exercise mats have been removed, and the floor is ready for moisture testing and efforts to mitigate radon.
  • Radon Professional Services (RPS) was on-site this week to determine locations for soil gas extractors at Sandels. A contract with RPS for radon mitigation and monitoring services is pending review and execution by FSU.
  • Six new fume hoods have been proposed for the 4th floor. Development of a purchase order is in progress.
  • FSU Facilities continues to work with the engineering firm on the design of Air Handling Unit 6. Administration will review for final design approval by June 1.
  • Structural analysis continues for work planned in Phase 2.
  • All work performed by FSU Maintenance in Room 442E is now complete.

Please continue to review these weekly updates for additional information as the project progresses. Our top priority remains the health and safety of our campus community.

If you have questions that have not been addressed in one of my updates, on the Sandels Response website or in the FAQs, please email sandelsresponse@fsu.edu, and we will answer your individual questions to the best of our ability.

Best regards,

Jim Clark
Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
